Les Marronniers at Saint Victor is a residential writing studio for individuals who want to spend time in the Dordogne in a stimulating rural environment where they can have time and space to focus on their writing. Tutoring is provided on a one-to-one basis by David Llewellyn. His qualifications and experience can be found on The Tutor Icon. Tutoring is provided for a variety of genres: poetry, long and short fiction, non-fiction categories, such as travel writing, magazine articles, biography, autobiography, history, stage, television and radio drama.
Les Marronniers is for individual writers only and does not cater for groups.
Anyone who wishes to receive tuition is asked to submit examples of work before arrival. This can be arranged with David Llewellyn on reservation.
Alternatively, for anyone not wishing to receive tutoring, Les Marronniers is an ideal retreat for those who need peace and quiet to work on their project.
The studio is in an idyllic, tranquil setting within the hilltop village of Saint Victor. From the secluded courtyard and garden, there are spectacular views across the Dronne river valley in the Perigord Vert (Green Perigord) region of the Dordogne. The area is renowned for its culinary delicacies, such as foie gras and confit de canard. The finest Bordeaux, Sauternes, Bergerac and Montbazillac wines are all produced nearby. The owners of Les Marronniers are David and Sian Llewellyn who live in the converted barn attached to the studio.
Guests are accommodated on a self-catering basis. The studio is open-plan with a large living area. There is a comfortable sofa-bed, farmhouse table and antique French chairs. The kitchen is equipped to a high standard with cooker, fridge and microwave. There is a separate, stylish shower room with toilet.
Guests are invited to bring a partner if they wish at no extra cost.
The village of Saint Victor is situated on a ridge between the towns of Riberac (host to the largest market in the area) and Perigueux (ancient Roman capital of the Dordogne). There is an excellent bar and restaurant serving traditional French food in the church square within 100 metres of Les Marronniers.
